Say hi to Aleisia Kisel, an Accounting Manager at BST in Latham, NY. If you think accounting is just tax season stress and endless spreadsheets, Aleisia’s here to take a lot of that weight off your shoulders. At BST, she’s part of the outsourced accounting team, which means she works side by side with businesses of all shapes and sizes. Sometimes she jumps in for a specific project, other times she acts as their ongoing finance partner. Her role is all about helping companies stay organized and on track so they can focus on growing without having to sweat the day-to-day numbers.
We’re glad to have Aleisia as part of the Networking @ Night community! Make sure to say hello at an upcoming event.
We had the chance to catch up with Aleisia recently about a whole range of topics.
How did you first hear about the Networking @ Night?
Through Instragram! I follow Andrea and she had been posting about it so I decided to check it out!
What kind of clients or connections are you hoping to meet through this group?
What I’ve learned through my networking experience is to be open to meeting everyone! You never know where a connection can lead you. So I’m hoping to continue to meet interesting people who are willing to connect and collaborate! An ideal referral for me is a business that is in need of accounting assistance. I typically work with businesses that don’t need a full time accountant or just need some guidance on cleaning up their books, better financial reporting or need an understanding of their financial situation.
Have you attended other networking events in the region? How do they compare?
I’ve attended a few other networking events in the area and while all of them have been beneficial, Networking @ Night has provided me with the most meaningful connections. I’ve met some really amazing, intelligent and talented people through this group and I can’t recommend it enough to others!
How has networking helped your career or business so far?
Networking has allowed me to help others. Which is something I feel strongly about. Andrea and I were able to collaborate to help one of my current clients, a nonprofit in Albany, with food donations. It was truly a win-win all the way around!
Are there any local businesses you collaborate with or recommend often?
Absolutely! I’ve networked quite a bit with Steve and Dan at Post Time Wealth Solutions. They started their own financial advisory firm a few years ago, located right in Malta. Steve and Dan are some of the most genuine people I’ve met in the financial industry. They are so easy to talk to, very down to earth, and provide a sense of trust and security when it comes to servicing their clients.
What’s something most people don’t know about your career path or background?
My career path has been anything but linear. I originally took the traditional path, starting out in public accounting. But after a few years I decided I needed to switch it up. So, I bounced around in private industry for a few years gaining experience in both the retail industry and property management. I even spent a year as the general manager for the bridal boutique, Lily Saratoga! However, I missed my spreadsheets and numbers so I ended up back in the accounting field. I’m still at Lily’s part time though! If you need help finding your dream wedding gown, I’m your girl!
If you weren’t in your current field, what do you think you’d be doing instead?
Probably a wedding planner. I’m super organized, detail oriented and I LOVE to plan things.
What’s your go-to spot for coffee or lunch in Saratoga Springs?
I love Kru Coffee off exit 15! They have delicious chai lattes (my fav) and it’s never super packed like some of the spots downtown can be.
What advice would you give to a young professional?
I will share some advice that was passed down to me by one of my first partners in public accounting, “Always show up with a smile.” Showing up to work, or an event, with a smile and a positive attitude makes a world of difference. It helps to build trust and provides an environment in which people are at ease and more willing to work with you!
Anything else you’d like to add?
A huge thank you to Andrea and Brad for all the hard work they put into making these events possible!
(blush emoji) Thanks, Aleisia! We appreciate the kind words!
